ABOUT HG

Picture
Harmonic Generation is an upbeat vocal group that has been entertaining audiences for well over ten years with its special blend of contemporary pop and classic songs.  The group's a cappella arrangements span the years and draw inspiration from a wide range of popular genres and musical artists that can suit any occasion (e.g., Sting, the Beatles, Chicago, Sara Bareilles, Adele, Coldplay, Portugal-The Man, David Archuleta, Michael Jackson, Stan Rogers, Imogen Heap, Pentatonix.)

Singing as a group over the last decade has given us opportunities to perform for thousands in a variety of musical settings.  Audiences often comment on how impressed they are to see a group that sings from memory, performing without a conductor, and requiring just a single starting note before launching into songs that feature multiple layers of complex harmonies.
Some of our concerts involve collaboration with other artists and ensembles, and allow us to explore music from different musical genres and styles. We have held workshops with Finnish group Rajaton, and Sweden's The Real Group, as well as experts in vocal technique, beatboxing, and arranging, working with microphones, and sound systems.  We have also worked with local artists on a variety of musical projects.
Harmonic Generation meets Monday evenings in Nepean and works on assembling and polishing multi-part (sometimes quite complex!) vocal arrangements of some well-known songs from the last few decades, as well as other material that we think is fun to sing and hear. Several times a year we get together for day-long workshops to advance our vocal technique, work on new material, or prepare for an upcoming  performance.

Through a team-based approach, members of HG share the responsibility for setting the direction of the group, planning concerts, selecting music, developing staging and choreography for shows, managing the group's web presence, developing audio and video recordings, raising funds to support group activities, and promoting the group via traditional and social media.
Harmonic Generation embraces the opportunity to give back to our community. Since 2008, HG has enabled more than $29,500 in donations from our performances that have supported the important work of the following charitable organizations, causes, and initiatives:
  • An Early Start: Health and Education for Guatemalan Children
